CHM135H1 and CHM136H1 cannot be taken in the same session. This course offers an introduction to fundamental physical principles of chemistry, with an emphasis on the structure and behaviour of matter. Students will gain tools from classroom and laboratory experiences to explain why chemical reactions occur, how fast they proceed, and how energy is transformed. Topics will include quantum theory and electronic structure, bonding and intermolecular forces, gases, thermochemistry, kinetics, equilibria, acids and bases, buffers and solubility, thermodynamics (including phase transitions and vapour pressure), and electrochemistry. This course is recommended for students in life and health science programs. (Lab Materials Fee: approximately $27).

This is a student-contributed aggregate, not an official University of Toronto record. It is also not a measure of how hard the course is — a course average moves with who enrols in it, not only with the material.

Per-term figures stay hidden until each term clears five contributors. 8 observations can support one honest number; they cannot support 8.

What this opens up

29 courses list CHM135H1 as a prerequisite

The other 9 have no page yet. Listing a course here means it names CHM135H1 among its prerequisites — often as one of several ways to satisfy the same requirement, so this is what CHM135H1 makes available, not what it alone guarantees.
